Sainsbury’s £2 ‘Taste Me, Don’t Waste Me’ Fruit and Veg Box

Eating fruit and veg is something we all know we should do, but perhaps don’t do as often as we should. 

Luckily, this deal should solve that, because you can get your hands on a massive box of fresh fruit and veg for £2 at a major supermarket. 

If you wanted to pick up these veg boxes, here’s everything you need to know: 

What is in the deal exactly? 

Sainsbury’s have just launched a brand new scheme to help cut down food wastage, but also give a good deal to its customers. 

You may be aware of a box of fruit & veg at Lidl, known as ‘wonky veg’. This is the exact same thing as the new scheme at Sainsbury’s. 

They call it the ‘Taste Me, Don’t Waste Me’ box, and there will be multiple available each day. 

Quite often, supermarkets find pieces of fruit and veg that may not look the prettiest, or look a little bit ‘wonky’ – but would still taste totally fine. 

Sainsbury’s are now putting a selection of these ‘wonky’ veg items into a big box for people to pick up and take home. 

These big boxes of food will be priced at £2, and available in the fresh produce aisles of superstores around the country. 

This scheme has been implemented in over 200 stores, so it’s worth having a look around the next time you head to Sainsbury’s. 

It’s probably best you head into a store early if this is something you wanted to pick up, as it’s likely stock will be limited and go fast each day. 

Why should I care? 

Fruit & vegetables, no matter what they look like, will all get cooked and eaten the same. There’s nothing wrong with buying wonky items – and they’re a lot cheaper. 

If you can use these fruit and veg boxes into making two or three meals, you could get a lot of value out of just one box. 

At £2 for the box, you can spend that on just one pack of peppers, and get so much extra on top. 

What’s the catch? 

Some superstores around the country will not have this. They can be found in a purpose built stand saying “Taste Me, Don’t Waste Me” – so even if there are no boxes left, you can see if your store participates. 

It’s also worth going first thing in the morning if this is something you really wanted. There’s no guarantees that there will be any left as time goes on throughout each day. 

What other options do I have? 

If you head into a Lidl store, you can find almost identical fruit and veg boxes sold for £1.50. These work in the same way, although they do sell out very quickly. 

You can find these in the front of most stores, either next to or by the checkouts. The items in each box changes, and it varies what you’ll get each day.
